THE PHOTOGRAPHER

I was born in Manly, Sydney, Australia.

In 1990, I spent the year travelling through Asia, the UK and Europe. It was during this time that I gained an appreciation of the importance of travel in achieving a deeper understanding of the world in terms of its physical landscape, cultures, and people. This understanding was central to the later development of my photography.

In the mid 1990s, during the period when I obtained degrees in Archaeology at the University of Sydney, my interest in photography intensified. In 1996, I spent five months travelling in Asia and Europe, and it was during this period that I explored photography in greater depth. In particular, my focus was drawn towards black and white photography.

It was through my desire to explore the possibilities of black and white photography that I became involved with Point Light Gallery in Surry Hills, Sydney, Australia. While I was associated with this leading school, I studied the medium of black and white photography in depth.

In later years, during which time I obtained an additional degree in Heritage Conservation at the University of Sydney, I have continued to travel regularly and this has been central to my exploration of photography, in particular black and white photography.

I currently have my own photography business called Scott Gregory Banner - Photographer. I exhibit my work, provide images to the image agency Alamy Images, provide cards and prints to retail outlets and organisations, and provide images to the National Library of Australia and the State Library of New South Wales.
