The Photographer

THE PHOTOGRAPHER

I was born in Manly, Sydney, Australia. In 1990, I spent the year travelling through Asia, the UK and Europe. It was during this time that I gained an understanding of the importance of travel in achieving a deeper appreciation of the world in terms of its physical landscape, cultures, and people. This appreciation was central to the later development of my photography.

In 1996, after obtaining a degree in Archaeology at the University of Sydney, my interest in photography intensified. In that year, I spent five months travelling in Asia and Europe, and it was during this period that I explored photography in greater depth. In particular, my focus was drawn towards black and white photography.

It was through my desire to explore the possibilities of black and white photography that I became involved with Point Light Gallery in Surry Hills, Sydney, Australia. While I have been associated with this leading school, I have studied the medium of black and white photography in depth.

I currently have my own photography business called Scott Gregory Banner - Photographer. I exhibit my work, provide images from my own photographs to the image agency Alamy Images, provide cards and prints from my own photographs to retail outlets and organisations, and provide images from my own photographs to the National Library of Australia and the State Library of New South Wales.
